I titled this little blog with the question "Meaningless facts or fact that we value as meaningless?" this question implies a great deal, stated another way.. “Is there glory in those facts...? Does God get glory from those facts that are true are real and have grounding in reality? ”
two quick points to be made here.

One, Rom 10:2 tells us that facts spark passion. Facts are the proper root to passion. they can be miss placed like in the case of the Pharisees loving the things of God, and Never LOVING GOD! Fact about God can be idolatrous. God can be an Idol in the way of God. When we do not allow those facts to capture us so that they own us and we objectify them into a mental prison called "OUR theology" so they never become "our reality". We may have the facts right but we will never discern reality right! In the 20th century where our passion is trained to be connected to our senses (touch taste smell ect..), sentiment and general lower self we must reconnect to the old ways of passionate orthodoxy. It is time we make a conscience effort to connect our love to the facts. As one graced with dyslexia, I know the agony of misunderstand so I tend to look longer, value knowing a little deeper and dismiss any lazy impulse to be satisfied with half-knowledge. I have looked at a passage and screaming, “I DONT GET IT!” But from my new birth, I burned to know the one I knew. It was at first a curiosity. Slowly it dried my mind and became a thirst. A want to be captured by the knowledge of him, directed by that knowledge and then when this life is over taken by the eternal diver head long into him! SO…. Line by line, hour on hour, and then grace. I found the joy of knowledge, the ecstasy of understanding, and the grace of the Spirit unveiling truth in a moment. A touched mind was touched and my thrust just deepened. Facts burn!

Facts are the door to passion. They alone can grip us for a life time. Stories get old, sentiment weakens but truth stands forever. Stories and sentiment are good but they are the weekend vacation of our feelings. They are made to be the donkey that carries the truth of Jesus into our souls! When Jesus enters this way do you cry HOSANNA or remark that was a nice story? The illustrations to a sermon should never move the mature believer as must as the truth behind the illustration. When, "God LOVES YOU" or "JESUS PAIDED IT ALL" moves your soul less than some experience of light and sound or a well told story, your just being wrong headed! The light and sound are the means for truth. They are the servants that are sent with the message “come to the banqueting table.” Also the power and experience is not self-sufficient either, to be authentic, it must come as a result of the truth being grasped by faith. This grasping can come with such a grace that that reality in a moment is perceived in the Holy Spirit, as GLORY! Facts and fire are indefinable.. As Kierkegaard wrote "truth is a trap, You do not get it, it gets you." He means the facts of reality beckon us to curiosity then to observation, meditation and before we realize it the lid slams shut and we are capture in heart by what we believe to be truth. All you need is to turn you Tv to PBS. Most scientist burn with a passion for what they believe to be true. Most burn with deep fires that put most Christian to shame. They are in love with their facts and will fight for them. We are in love with our illustrations and sentiment; some times we love even our hates and bias justifying them as convictions. CONTEMPABLE!!! The world shrinks back from us in disillusionment at the smell of dis-in-genuineness. Thus moving closer to the strange flames of other loves far less wild and eminently less real and holy.

Second, this little giggle is telling of your soul. It informs you as to your center. If you call them meaningless facts. You state that for you they have no value and you’re at the center of your existence. Your the center of your personal perception. If you find in the odd little facts, a faint wow, a whisper of awe, a curiosity that bacons to divine complexity, if you find in them a joy that wills eternity! You’re on your way to seeing life as God would have you see.
